American Constitutionalism as a Steppingstone to a Higher Law, Part 2

​Last week we saw that America’s system of constitutional government included five principles from the Hebrew Bible – Men are created equal, Rights come from God, Collectivism, Constitution of Laws and Representative Government. Though the Founders knew that one day Americans would adopt the entire law code of ancient Israel, America was not ready – there just wasn’t a homogenous population that could live God’s full law. So the Founders crafted a partial theocratic society that Americans could live who were both moral and had a belief in God.

​Americans to be Moral and Religious
Another principle that we see in the Bible is a statement made by John Adams, a founding father and the second president of the United States –

​“Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious People. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” - 1798
 

​In other words, John Adams is stating that to preserve freedom, Americans had to have a belief in God and are honest – choosing right over wrong.  This concept of being moral – choosing the right – is connected with the Light of Messiah/Christ or our conscience that helps us to know right and wrong. – John 1:9
 
 
Three Grand Keys of the Gospel
When we review the Three Grand Keys of the Gospel, we can identify where Americans fall. America comes under the category of The Spirit.

Establishing Courts of Justice
A second principle we see here is that America does not adopt ancient Israel's system of justice but continues with the common law that was inherited from the British. This establishing man-made courts of justice is associated with God’s Seven Noahide Laws.

THE SEVEN NOAHIDE LAWS

​Not to worship idols.

​Not to curse God.

​Not to commit murder.

​Not to commit adultery or sexual immorality.

​Not to steal.

Not to eat flesh torn from a living animal.

​To establish courts of justice.

The United States Congress and the Seven Noahide Laws
In 1991 in a joint resolution approved by Congress, entered into law as PL 102-14, the Seven Noahide Laws are recognized as a part of America's founding and critical for the stability of a nation.

​A Steppingstone to a Higher Law
Since American Constitutionalism is based on a covenant (social contract) with God and the basics of divine law, we must conclude that American Constitutionalism is a steppingstone to a higher law. And that higher law is the law code of Israel in the fullness of Messiah/Christ. This progression to a higher law will happen when God’s Endtime Servant arrives and unites American believers under one true Gospel/Law.  Cleon Skousen, JD, in his book, The Majesty of God’s Law, said – 

​

​"I discovered that the Founders [of America] were in-depth students of the Bible, and equally familiar with secular history both ancient and modern.  I was surprised that they knew we Americans would one day practice the revealed code of righteous law given to the Israelites by God."

​We can connect this concept of Americans living the Law back to Isaiah 19:18

"In that day five Hebrew-speaking cities in the land of Egypt (law-keepers in America) will swear loyalty to Jehovah of Hosts. One shall be known as the City of Righteousness."
