![]() The Apostle Paul declared to the Thessalonians – “Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. Abstain from all appearance of evil. And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” - 1 Thessalonians 5:21-23. Here Paul is counseling us how to prepare for the Lord’s coming. Testing Good and Evil The advice Paul is giving us is to test everything to know if it is good or evil becomes a basis to prepare for Yeshua/Jesus’ return. If we ignore the Old Testament definitions of good and evil – good and evil becomes a rather fluid concept highly influenced by feelings and emotions – easily being tossed to and fro. On the other hand, if we look at the definitions in the Old Testament of good and evil, good and evil becomes rather concrete – God codifies good and evil in His law to Israel – Deu. 30:15. That being said, the Law has become my theological anchor, which has served me well! Sanctification Paul goes onto say that choosing and then living good will sanctify us and prepare us to receive the return of God’s Son. These concepts are consistent with our process of receiving divine truth.
Malachi Chapter 4 We can see similar advice in Malachi chapter 4 where the Law becomes integral for our Endtime preparation. Notice how verse 4 becomes the context for verses 5 and 6. The use of the word curse in verse 6 also is a reference to the statutes and judgments in verse 4. 1 For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the Lord of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch. 2 ¶ But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall. 3 And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the Lord of hosts. 4 ¶ Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments. 5 ¶ Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord: 6 And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse. What we should be seeing here in verses 5 and 6 is that this Elijah – God’s Endtime Servant – will turn us back to the fathers to whom God gave the Law – doing good – so that we aren’t tread down with the wicked, verse 3 and cursed with destruction – verses 1,6. I hope that the information on this website has been a blessing to you!
