In the last chapter, we separated faith into two types – hope and belief. We also introduced that belief led a believer to action. Moreover, we see that same concept for those who have clean hands and pure hearts. In this chapter, we will expand on the faith that leads to action. The Process of Perfection Our Process of Perfection looks like this:
Faith(belief) Results in Action While hope is simple mental exertion of commitment, the scriptures show that belief takes faith to another level through action. We see this in Paul’s teaching to the Hebrews in chapter 11. By faith Abel offered a greater sacrifice than Cain and it was counted to him for righteousness - verse 4 By faith Noah prepared the ark to save his house - verse 7 By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go to receive an inheritance - verse 8 Action is the Evidence of Faith(belief) When we look at hope and belief, belief is a higher standard because it requires action. This action demonstrates our level of faith. This demonstration of belief is evidence of our level of commitment. “Evidence is information, facts, or objects that help prove or disprove a statement, theory, or claim, serving as grounds for belief or disbelief.” - Google AI Action Under Distress The statement that a person has great faith-belief is really connected to a person’s resolve to follow his faith under distress. The greater one’s distress, the greater one's faith. Many will have faith to endure persecution. Some have greater faith when faced with death. Other have even greater faith when they are tried in all things. Action and Receiving the Holy Spirit We also see that action or obedience to the commandments qualifies a person to receive the Holy Spirit – Acts 5:32 “And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Spirit, whom God hath given to them that obey him.”
