Dr. Gottman is a practicing believer of Judaism

The Biblical Reference Guide for the Gottman Method was authored by Dr. David R Penner, a clinical psychologist and Gottman Institute director. The guide integrates the research-based Gottman Method with biblical scripture, offering a resource for clinicians and couples who want to blend faith with relationship skills.

This Guide uses scriptural references from both the Old and New Testaments.
