Thoughts on Torah for Last Week: See our page on Spiritual Coaching: Exodus 31-34 In this portion, specifically in chapter 32, we see Moses offering his life for the lives of the children of Israel whom the Lord threatens to destroy because of their gross sin with the golden calf – “Yet now, if thou wilt forgive their sin—; and if not, blot me, I pray thee, out of thy book which thou hast written.” – (32:32). In biblical theology, this concept is known as proxy salvation where the life of a righteous man is offered to save others. Additionally, Moses is also acting as a righteous king (Melchizedek) by establishing law and judging righteously. When we bring these to two roles together that is demonstrated in Moses – we get the concept of a Savior-King. Isaiah calls this category of the blessed His Sons/Servants/Kings and with their wives His Daughters/Handmaidens/Queens. Savior-Kings Another great example of a Savior-King is King Hezekiah. King Hezekiah’s people are threatened to be destroyed by the Assyrians: but, King Hezekiah intercedes and suffers for his peoples transgressions and wins God protection for them – Isaiah chapters 37 and 38. We will also see this in the Endtimes with God’s Servant and the 144,000 Servants.
3. They have proven their loyalty to God under a heavier trial of faith. 4. They have achieved of degree of personal perfection, are transformed into the full stature and image of the Messiah and can bear the presence of the Father - Ephesians 4:13. 5. They are high priests. 6.They see God and have their calling and election made sure – 2 Peter 1:10. As God’s leaders, Savior-Kings have the following responsibilities in administering a community:
Isaiah’s “Savior” Categories The prophet Isaiah sets out two additional “Savior” categories in his Hebrew Gospel. Those additional categories include: Savior-Seraphims/Angels and a Savior-God. The table below summarizes the three “Savior” categories.
