Side Bar: A Moral and Religious People
In my Side Bar last week, I indicated that a polarization was happening in America. This polarization is an opportunity to examine how we should think about what government here in America looks like. America was founded on the principles of self-government – a government by and of the people. Much of American government was founded on the principles of self-government and morality that God revealed to humanity in the Bible. Moreover, the Founders took this idea a step further by framing their intent on self-government by entering into a covenant with God. Here is that language from the Declaration of Independence –
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
So that the rights of Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness come from God. The Founders of America based their belief in God through the Bible and used many principles of self-government from the Bible. We can link these ideas of life, liberty, and happiness directly to the Bible.
Life
“I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live: That thou mayest love the Lord thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length of thy days: that thou mayest dwell in the land…” Deu. 30:19,20
Liberty
“proclaim liberty throughout all the land to all its inhabitants” Lev. 25:10
“proclaim liberty to the captives” Isaiah 61:1
Happiness
“Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.” Proverbs 29:18
Life

Morality and Religion Required
However, these rights from God can only be secured by a moral and religious people. John Adams, a Founding Father and the Second President of the United States, said –

"Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other."
So to secure the rights of life, liberty and happiness from God –
The people need to elect moral and God believing representatives.
We need to eliminate fraudulent and wasteful spending in the Government.
We need to restore Government that executes Justice.
We need to screen immigrants that will be moral and have a belief in God.
We need American corporations that won’t engage in greed.
We need politicians who won’t enrich themselves through their elected offices - graft in American politics has reached epidemic levels.
It is my position that the conservatives currently in power are trying to restore government to an ethical and constitutionally based institution. Whereas, the liberals previously in power were hell-bent on fundamentally changing our culture and our economic system – redefining genders, moving us to socialism and communism, which don’t create jobs and wealth they consume it. Capitalism creates jobs and wealth but is subject to greed. If we can’t be a moral and religious people, than we aren’t capable of living under God and a government for and by the people based in part on His law.
Our enemies in America are not one another they are those engaging in corruption and taking us away from a biblically based society which America was founded on.

So you need to choose – do you want a God-based government or one without God, because in the end, God will need to eliminate those who reject Him and who will be unable to live under a fuller system of God’s personal rule in the Millennium.
