![]() In last week's post, we reviewed a revival of Torah observance rising in America - the Messianic Movement. This week we will consider the Return of Elijah, who like Moses leads a remnant out of wickedness. Every Passover, practicing Jews set a place for Elijah at their Seder tables. Various reasons for this practice exists but one Endtime possibility is to memorialize the prophecy that Elijah will return before the Endtime judgement on the wicked is executed - Malachi 4:5,6. Here, we will look at various aspects of this returning Elijah. Endtime Event Sequence This week we'll look at our first Endtime Event - the Return of Elijah.
The Endtime Elijah One pattern in the scriptures that appears to happen when God comes to humanity en masse is that God sends His servant to prepare the people to receive Him. Moses prepared Israel to receive Jehovah, John the Baptist prepared the people to receive Yeshua. In both of these cases, we see these forerunners prepare the people to live the Law. Moses reveal God's covenant and law to Israel and John the Baptist message was to be baptized and to return to God's covenant and law. This concept of a forerunner preparing the people is known as the "Spirit of Elias". By linking Luke 1:16-17 with Malachi 4:5,6, we see a relationship between Elijah, John the Baptist and the Spirit and Power of Elias - as preparers for the people to receive their god. The Angel from the East We also see this Endtime Elias which prepares the people in the Book of Revelations - the Angel from the East - Rev 7:2-8. Notice here that like Elijah, this Angel from the East has the power to seal with heaven. Turning Hearts One of the primary missions of these Eliases is to turn the hearts of the children to the fathers and the fathers to the children. When we review the account of Elijah in the Old Testament, we see Elijah calling fire down from heaven consuming a sacrifice to the God of Israel. This incident resulted in turning Israel's heart back to God and the covenant God made with their fathers - 1 Kings 18:37. So also John the Baptist preached baptism and returning to God's covenant and this is what our Endtime Elias will do also. Three Years of Warning However, as our initial Endtime event, God's Endtime servant, the Endtime Elias, warns the people for three years before God executes judgement on the world by the Anti-Christ - Isaiah's King of Assyria - Isaiah 16:14; 20:2-4. Our Three Prophecies
The Fourth Turning In our last week's post, we saw how in the fourth turning or crisis period that older people give orders and the younger do great deeds. This is the period that our Endtime Servant appears. Notice how the authors of the Fourth Turning describe the kinds of people that are active during this period. "Since the dawn of the modern world, there has been but one Fourth Turning constellation: elder Prophets, midlife Nomads, young-adult Heroes, and child Artists." "As visionary Prophets replace Artists in elderhood, they push to resolve ever-deepening moral choices, setting the stage for the secular goals of the young." p.267 The Book of Isaiah In Isaiah's prophecy of America, we see God sending a deliverer to save believers in America from the oppression of the Anti-Christ - Isaiah 19:20 . But elsewhere in Isaiah, God's Endtime Servant warns America for three years before judgment is executed by the Anti-Christ - the Endtime King of Assyria. Further, notice in chapters 16 and 20 that this warning is sent out to two Gentile nations - Egypt and Moab. Dr. Gileadi comments, "As “God will do nothing unless he reveals his secret to his servants the prophets” (Amos 3:7), he gives ample warning before cleansing the earth of wickedness—in the end-time as anciently. In Isaiah’s day, for example, God commands Isaiah to go naked and barefoot for three years as a portent of Assyria’s invasion of Egypt (Isaiah 20:2–4). (Not known for being politically correct by modern standards, God ever leaves room for doubters to spurn his warnings.) Similarly, God gives Moab, a kindred people, three years’ warning—“like the term of a lease”—before Moab’s glory turns to shame, its large populace perishes, and but few inhabitants remain (Isaiah 16:14)." The Book of Mormon Here is how the Book of Mormon describes this Endtime Servant, "But behold, the life of my servant shall be in my hand; therefore they shall not hurt him, although he shall be marred because of them. Yet I will heal him, for I will show unto them that my wisdom is greater than the cunning of the devil." 3 Nephi 21:10
