In this chapter, we'll continue with our review of aspects of Perfection. A second component of Perfection that we see modeled in the life of Yeshua is His great knowledge that He acknowledges in His declaration that He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Those who ascend to be God's Elect/Sons/Daughters receive a fullness of knowledge so they can be effective teachers of Yeshua's testimony or Gospel. The Bible sets out a process for receiving truth from God. Here, we'll consider the keys in this process. The Process of Perfection Our Process of Perfection looks like this:
Key 1: Responding to the Light of Messiah/Christ We introduced this concept in a previous post, but in review, the Light of Messiah is our conscience that gives us that sense of guilt when we have engaged in a wrongful act. The Apostle John wrote: "In the beginning was the Word,...[and He] was the true Light which, coming into the world, enlightens every man." - John 1:1,9. So when John wrote that every man [and woman] would be enlightened by the Light of Messiah, he is referring to all humanity and that all humanity would receive His light to help them know right and wrong. Moreover, those who respond to this Light will recognize that the God of Israel is the true god of this world, the Creator of all and that He is the Way, the Truth and Life.
Key 2: Growing in Truth through the Written Word Those who respond to their conscience and accept the God of Israel as the true god begin by living God’s basic laws, which is expressed in the seven Noahide Laws. Those who continue in the Word of God grow in God’s knowledge and in obedience to His Law, which now includes the Torah Commands and living the Laws of Sanctification. And since God’s Law is truth - Psalms 119:151 “Thou art near, O Lord; and all thy commandments are truth.”, the more of His law we live, the more of His truth that is in us.
Key 3: Receiving and Recognizing the Influence of the Holy Spirit - the Spirit of Truth Once we have done our best to understand God's Written Word and live His Law, we are endowed with the Holy Spirit or the spirit of truth. "And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him." - Acts 5:32 Yeshua declared that the Spirit of Truth or Holy Spirit would come when He left, which would guide us into all truth - John 16:13. “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth...” – John 16:13 One of the biggest challenges that I have had as a believer is learning to recognize when the Spirit is testifying of truth. I was taught that I would have a “burning in my bosom or chest” when the Spirit was confirming truth to me. But what is that really? I see believers who say they have the Spirit, but in the end they are spinning up their own emotions and then misinterpreting those emotions as the Spirit’s influence. Let us begin this discussion with the Lord Himself and see what the most reliable sense we would receive. Here are some key scriptures. “The LORD bless you, and keep you;The LORD make His face shine on you, And be gracious to you; The LORD lift up His countenance on you, And give you peace.” Numbers 6:24-26 “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you;” John 14:27 “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace.” John 16:33 “For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints” 1 Cor 14:33 “Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace always by all means. The Lord be with you all.” 2 Thess 3:16 So the take away that we see in these scriptures is that when we receive a truth of God we will have a sense of peace and not a sense of confusion or unsettledness. So the teachings of the Messiah would bring us peace that confirms to us in knowing His truth.
We also see these concepts of peace and knowledge through the Holy Spirit. At Yeshua’s baptism, the Spirit descended in the form of a dove. Doves have traditionally been symbols of innocence and peace. The Spirit is also called a comforter - John 14:26. Peace is one of the fruits of the Spirit - Gal. 5:22. Moreover, we see in the scriptures that knowledge is a gift of the Spirit - 1 Cor. 12:8. So when we hear and think of an idea, does the Spirit confirm that idea with a sense of peace, calm or contentment or confusion, unsettledness or even a dullness of mind.
Finally, in all ways the commandments bring peace - Proverbs 3:17. Our Jewish brothers seem to get this concept. The Talmud states,”The entire Torah is for the sake of the ways of shalom" - Gittin 5b. Key 4: Petitioning God for Knowledge Our next key is Petitioning God for Knowledge. This key goes hand in hand with receiving truth from the Spirit, because a primary way to obtain knowledge through the Spirit is to ask a doctrinal questions through prayer. Let’s look at a couple of scriptures: "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him." James 1:5 "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened." Matt 7:7,8 So it seems pretty obvious that God will respond to a question for knowledge. But there is one caveat that I have found when God will respond to a question, and that is asking the right question. Because if your question is based on an idea that is out of sync with God - like one that does not validate the Law, your question will probably be met with silence or a dullness of mind. Another important aspect of receiving truth through the Spirit, is pondering on a thought. False concepts won't stay with you but true ones will. Key 5: Recognizing the Theme of Threes or the Three Grand Keys The first organizing principle of God's truth is the Three Grand Keys of God's truth that is manifested in the Spirit, the Son, and the Father. We see in the scriptures that there is a triad of concepts that appear throughout the scriptures. Here are a few of them.
Key 6: The Perfection or Rule of Seven We have already introduced the Rule of Seven, but in review, the number seven appears throughout the Bible to indicate a state of completion, fullness, and perfection. We use this rule to establish when we have received a fullness of God's truth. The more sevens we can incorporate into God's truth the fuller it becomes.
