Thoughts on the Gospel for Last Week. See our page on Spiritual Coaching. John 1;1-17 This portion begins like Genesis, In the Beginning, but in Genesis we only see the word Elohim used to identity who created the heavens and the earth. John expands this view into two identities - the Word and God. We also see in the last verse of this portion the terms Law, Grace and Truth introduced. We'll look at these two topics in this weeks review. God and the Word To best see who these two identities are in verses one and two, we'll include their additional titles. In the beginning was the Word - the Son, Jehovah-God, Lord-God, Yeshua(Jesus)-Messiah and the Word - the Son, Jehovah-God, Lord-God, Yeshua(Jesus)-Messiah was with God - the Father, the Most High God, and the Word - the Son, Jehovah-God, Lord-God, Yeshua(Jesus)-Messiah was God -the Son, Jehovah-God, Lord-God, Yeshua(Jesus)-Messiah He - the Son, Jehovah-God, Lord-God, Yeshua(Jesus)-Messiah was in the beginning with God - the Father, the Most High God Moreover, we see how their respective roles are further defined in the first two chapters of Genesis. Chapter One is a spiritual creation with both the Father and the Son, but then in Chapter Two we see a Physical creation that is executed by only the Son where their spirits are put into their physical bodies. So our table summary looks like this:
Truth, Grace and the Law In verse 17 of the first chapter of John, John writes - "For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ". Some Believers interpret this verse as two different routes to salvation,
But from a Torah perspective this is how these concepts relate.
So that any act we take in obedience to God raises our existence to a higher level - the result of Grace. When we are obedient and accept Yeshua as Messiah - we are saved from eternal death. When we are obedient to His commandments and change our hearts - we start developing the character of Yeshua. When we are obedient to the His Law - we live as God lives Receiving a Fullness In verse 16, we see that John is telling us that we go from grace to grace until we receive a fullness or ascending to the full image and stature of the Messiah.
