![]() Thoughts on Torah for Last Week: Genesis 18-22 Abraham's willingness to sacrifice his son Isaac changed his covenant with God from conditional to unconditional and was a pivotal event in human history. Through Abraham came God’s Law and the Eternal Savior for all humanity – Yeshua/Jesus. In his obedience to God, Abraham demonstrated a “savior/deliverer” role himself. Further, we see this savior role played out throughout the Tanakh/Old Testament by righteous mortal men.

![]() Thoughts on Torah for Last Week: Genesis 12-17 One of the strongest themes that we will see in the story of Abraham is the concept of conditional and unconditional covenanting. In the unfolding story of Abraham, we see God introduce His covenant with Abraham at Genesis 12. Then God introduces the covenant sign at chapter 17 - remember a covenant sign is an ongoing witness that a person is actively living in that covenant with God. In this portion, we see God enter into a conditional covenant with Abraham meaning that Abraham must continue to obey God to qualify for the covenant blessings. Later in Genesis, we'll see this covenant converted to a permanent and unconditional covenant after Abraham demonstrates his loyalty to God under distress. ![]() Thoughts on Torah for Last Week: Genesis 6-11 Some Christians have accepted the idea that there is one law for Jews and another law for Gentiles, and they cite Acts 15:20 to support their position. Further, Acts 15 can be directly linked to Genesis 9 where God gives to Noah a set of basic laws for all humanity. Jewish sages and rabbinics have synthesized this basic law into seven commands, which has been referred to as the Noahide Laws. We begin a new Torah reading cycle.
In this portion, we'll read from Creation up to the Flood - Genesis 1:1 to 6:8. In the Gospels, we'll read John 1:1-17. In the Haftarah, we'll start with Chapter 1 in the Book of Isaiah - our Endtime Guide. Select "Read More" for the Resource Links to the portion. |
