Thoughts on the Torah Portion for Last Week. See our page on Spiritual Coaching: Leviticus 16-18 This portion discusses the High Priests duties on the Day of Atonement or Yom Kippur. In this review, we will look at what the function of the High Priest looks like under the Melchizedek priesthood – the priesthood that Yeshua restored that does not require a lineage – Hebrews 7. We saw in a previous portion that fathers of families are priests under the Melchizedek priesthood by the taking of the an oath, which includes a covenant of life and peace. Moreover, fathers and mothers who “go on to perfection” obtain the full stature and image of the Messiah. Men who reach this level of righteousness become High Priests, receive leadership responsibilities in God’s kingdom and wear a priestly robe similar to the one King David obtained at 1 Chronicles 15:27, which is associated with the Davidic covenant. Full Stature of the Messiah One of Yeshua's primary mandates is to follow Him. Essentially, to follow Him really translates into the concept that by following Him in some respects is to become like Him. The Apostle Paul refers to this in Ephesians 4 to reach the full stature and image of the Messiah. The Apostle Paul also refers to "going onto perfection" at Hebrews 6. To become like the Messiah, is a process and not event. It is a process of obedience, to endure testing and being re-created. For men, they become Savior-Kings which are High Priests; and for women they become examples of perfect womanhood – godly Queens. So graphically this process looks like this.
In a corollary concept, we can also look at this process in terms of the roles of fathers and mothers as kings and queens and priests as they achieve a level of perfection to serve as God's leadership: Perfection in Marriage Integral to this process of achieving the full stature of the Messiah, is to realize perfection in marriage. Marriage and family is perhaps the greatest environment to overcome interpersonal weaknesses. By striving to live the principles that make a good marriage and family, they practice perfection in marriage and family life. The biblical mandate and the essence of the marriage covenant is to become “one flesh” or developing a oneness and unity. This oneness and unity provides a powerful force to move God’s work forward as husband and wife combine their complementary traits to form a complete wholeness. Those who strive to develop this level of personal perfection, God executes another test and then re-creates them into a more perfect being. God's Community Leaders Having reached the full stature and image of the Messiah through the process of being re-created into more perfect beings, they are now serviceable to God as His leaders. Leadership can be demonstrated not only in a community setting of unrelated persons, but more importantly we can see this community evident in a family organization. The covenant associated with community leadership is the Davidic covenant where the father establishes God’s law and in which blessings extend to his posterity everlasting. During the Endtime gathering of the House of Israel, we will see the 144,000 Savior-Kings be ordained High Priests.
