Moroni’s Latter-Day Prophecy of America - Ether 5-15

​This week in the Book of Mormon we’ll look at chapters 5 through 15 of Ether. What we see in these eleven chapters is Moroni setting the complete destruction of the Jaredites in a latter-day context. We know that because Moroni testifies of it in chapter 5 verse 4. Central to this destruction of America are secret groups that lust for power and money. This week will look at the sequence of events that led up to a complete destruction of the people.

Overview
Here in Ether we see Moroni give us more information about what happens in the latter-days. That time frame that comprises of the latter-days begins with the founding of American and its covenant of life set out in the Declaration of Independence/Constitution and concludes with the Endtimes when the anti-Messiah arrives.

​Moroni’s Latter-Day Prophecy
So this is the sequence of events that Moroni prophesies in these eleven chapters - 

Ether 5-15	Event	Latter-Days
Chapter 6	​The Jaredites establish a covenant community and become rich.	​America began as a covenant community as one nation and one law under God – 1776.
Chapter 7	​The Jaredites separate into two kingdoms. Invariably, this separation is motivated by money and power.   Prophets warn of curses and destruction if the people don't repent.	​America separates into a two party political system and adopts the 12th Amendment where the President and Vice-President are elected together – 1804.
Chapter 8	The rise of secret organizations that obtain money and power through unlawful, unethical and immoral actions including murder.     Moroni warns of destruction through secret combinations.	Creation of the Federal Reserve – a private institution that controls money in America – a violation of the Constitution – 1913. America removes the gold standard from its money and creates potential of unlimited creation of fiat money – a violation of the Constitution - 1933. Murder of President JF Kennedy who authorized the printing of US Treasury notes backed by silver – 1963. Unlimited political contributions by the wealthy and big business shifts elected leaders loyalties away from the people- 2010. ​ Politicians obtain money through influence peddling and stealing from the national treasury.
Chapter 9	​Influence of these secret organizations corrupt all the people.   Prophets come again to warn of destruction.	Corrupted political leaders obtain support from the people by fomenting fear and giving the people money – stimulus checks, tax refunds, debt forgiveness, other monetary handouts.
Chapters 10,11	​Wicked kings enslave the people with heavy taxation and revocation of civil liberties.   Prophets again warn of destruction. They are killed and withdraw from the people.	Contrived “emergencies” consolidates political power. The people lose civil liberties. Opposition is demonized, minimized and eliminated.
Chapters 12,13 ​Isaiah 19:18	Ether comes among the people to warn of destruction.   Moroni teaches on faith, having one’s calling and election made sure, and the future establishment of a New Jerusalem in America.	​Righteous individuals have their calling and election made sure and function as saviors to their family and friends.
Chapters 13-15 ​ Isaiah 19:2,4,16	​Wars and fighting escalate among all factions of society. The people separate into two groups – Shiz and Coriantumr. A great war ensues that results in the complete destruction of all the people.	​Civil war comes to America. Many die. The Anti-Messiah and his army invade America.
